Rules for selecting keywords for a website

Before you start solving the issue of creating a website, you need to clearly understand what the result should be "at the exit", and already on the basis of it to determine the most important tasks. The first and main stage of the development of an internet project is the formation of a semantic core (a list of keywords). Namely, the analysis of a search query in Google, the results of which, make a list of important key words/phrases, dividing them into groups (6 pieces) for all the leading pages of the project. The correctness of the selection of phrases and the subsequent writing of voluminous unique texts for them depends on whether the site will become competitive and whether it will have a consistently high traffic.


Non-targeted traffic


When it comes to the audience of a resource, you need to consider the question: "What kind of visitors are needed on the site?". Visitors may be casual, not interested in purchasing the services/products offered on the website, but who visited it on a general search query or on an ad. Such visitors will not be interested in the resource, they will not stay on it for a long time (no more than 5 seconds). In this case, it will be non - targeted traffic. It is also needed if you did not pay for it (for example, incorrectly designed contextual advertising).


Targeted traffic


If an Internet user came to the site for a specific request, saw what he was looking for on the page, he will stay on the website for a long time and may become your client (for example, order a service or pay for a product) or a regular visitor. This means that the phrase he typed in the search bar most fully corresponds to the content of the web page and the text published on it is interesting to him. In this version, the search engine showed this page as the most relevant. This is already the target traffic. It is the main result for which the site is created. Consistently high search traffic provides an influx of visitors to the resource, some of whom become your customers/buyers, and they pay you money, money, and money again (the main goal of any business project).


Number of search queries


When deciding on the quality of traffic, we should not forget about its quantity - "quantity is always transformed into quality". One of the most important tasks of search engine site promotion is to increase the target traffic. By promoting a website for only 6-8 competitive queries, you will not be able to provide a significant influx of the target audience to it. The larger the semantic core, the more significant the site traffic will be (trustworthiness). Moreover, high-frequency search queries should be promoted on a par with low - and medium-frequency ones. It is recommended to develop the project on 30-40 key phrases.


How to choose the right keywords?


Let's determine that the quality (target traffic) multiplied by the quantity (non-target traffic) gives the maximum result. For effective site promotion, it is recommended to form a semantic core of 20-30 keywords corresponding to high-frequency search queries.

When selecting promising phrases, among other things, it is necessary to take into account the region. For example, if you provide the services of a professional photographer in Moscow, then select the key phrases taking into account this region. The phrase "photographer services" will be less popular and more financially expensive to promote than "photographer services in Moscow".

If your project is "young", low-page, with a small financial budget, then the keywords should be low-frequency and medium-frequency, since the site will not get into the TOP 10 anyway. As a rule, it is impossible for high-frequency and expensive queries (for example, "photographer", "website creation") to bring a "fresh" resource with a meager content availability to the top ten (on the first issue sheet). For such websites, it makes sense to form a semantic core from a large number of non-competitive queries. In this case, the budget is saved and the effectiveness of website promotion is increased.

The key expressions you choose should be as natural as possible and easily integrated into the text. For example, instead of the expression "private house heating system", it sounds more correct - "heating system for a private house".

The Yandex search engine has a tool called Vordstat-Yandex (keyword statistics), with which you can easily find the required keywords and form the core of semantics. Do not forget to specify your region (at the top right, next to the "select" button).


Stages of creating a semantic core:


1. Decide on the list of pages that you plan to place on the website (the more, the better, at least 15).


2. Come up with 40-50 thematic phrases for which the resource will be searched through search engines (in your opinion).


3. Check the compiled list of phrases in the Yandex-Wordstat tool, selecting from them 30-40 with the maximum request frequency.


4. The resulting list of query words should be divided into groups (5 pieces each) for each future web page of the project.


After that, you can prepare technical tasks for writing texts for each page separately and place orders on the content exchanges by announcing a tender (play «Russian roulette»).

Having selected the best professional copywriter from the applicants for the task, in your opinion, according to the rating of the exchange, you can do other work on the project while waiting for the materials.
