Make a website yourself

You have decided to make a website yourself, as inexpensive as possible, and even better - for free. A great idea, you can't argue!

First, you need to understand for yourself: why do you need a website and what do you expect from it?

If, for example, you are a novelist and you want to create a certain book available online on the internet for your friends and acquaintances-a website where you could periodically publish your new creations, then this is one option.

And if you one day, sitting in the kitchen drinking tea, decided to become a businessman: somewhere to buy something cheap, and then to sell it all to someone expensive, getting high dividends, then this is an absolutely different option.

If your dreams are to make a website yourself, which will not only warm your soul with its beauty, design, functionality and navigation, but will also bring considerable profit, then you need a serious, multi-page and competitive project developed at a professional level.

This article will describe exactly the option of a professional approach to solving the issue of creating a website independently, from scratch, without involving specialists. To do this, you will need: time, the desire to understand this topic and a small amount of money (15-25 thousand rubles).

I want to immediately note that the article is of a recommendation nature, and I do not pretend to be a mentor and do not advertise products/services of third-party resources.

There are so many options for solving the problem of developing a web project that I do not undertake to describe them all. Before you start creating a website, I recommend that you also study the materials of other specialists in this field. There is plenty of information on the Internet. The choice is always yours!

I only suggest that you read my opinion on this issue.

How to make a site yourself-step-by-step instructions:

1. Selection and purchase of a domain.

The domain name is the face of the site. During the "life" of a web-resource, the structure, navigation, design can change, it can "move" to another hosting, and only the domain remains unchanged (it is chosen once and for all). His reputation must be impeccable. Only in this case, a web site can achieve high rankings and leading positions in the search results Yandex and Google.

You can choose and purchase a domain for your future site on special resources - they are called domain name registrars. Today there are a lot of them (for example, WebNames, Nic, Reg, R01, Reggi, 101Domain, Domenus).

I recommend using the services of the Russian WebNames registrar. I have been cooperating with him for a long time and there are no complaints from my side to him.

Currently, it is no longer easy to find a short, beautiful and sounding name for your project, everything has long been bought up by enterprising and efficient businessmen, and the registrars themselves sell popular domains at commercial prices.

When buying a domain, you must carefully fill out all the personal data in order to become its full legal owner.

The cost of a simple domain name put up for free sale is from 100 to 3.000 rubles for one year of use. Then you will need to renew your rights to it annually.

The price of the domain put up for auction ranges from 10.000 rubles to several million. In my opinion, sometimes it comes to complete absurdity (for example, it is offered for sale for 1.6 million rubles). I believe that only a rich aesthete with special sexual preferences is able to appreciate the hidden depth of this word.

If there is no fundamental difference for you, then do not buy a domain with Cyrillic (Russian) letters. Unfortunately, many services still do not understand Russian letters, so you will constantly have all sorts of difficulties. In this case, the ACE encoding will be used (for example, the domain - профбухучет.сом in ACE encoding has the spelling: Thus, the visible beauty of the name of the website is reduced to nothing, and "through the eyes" of a simple user is perceived as "abracadabra".

Several domains can be used simultaneously for a single web project (for example, - the main one, профбухучет.сом - additional). One of them is directly connected to the resource, and for the rest, a redirect to the main domain name is paid and configured (the cost of one redirect is 150-200 rubles per year).

2. Compiling a list of keywords (the semantic core of the site).

In order to make a website yourself and it would eventually become successful, you need an initially professional approach. Therefore, before you start writing texts, you should prepare a list of keywords/phrases (40-50 pieces), according to which in the future users will find your resource by search queries.

Next, the compiled list will need to be edited using the Yandex-Wordstat tool ( You will have to exclude phrases with a very low frequency of impressions from it and add high-frequency phrases.

Then the final version should be divided into groups (4-5 pieces each), for which texts will be ordered or written by you independently.

3. Determining the structure of the site.

At the stage of project work, it is necessary to outline the structure of the future web-project, think about its navigation, determine the menu items and the number of pages, their name and description.

Almost any resource has the following main pages (sections): home, services, cost, about us, contacts, reviews, articles.

When developing the site structure, it is necessary to consider the following:

the number of items in the main menu should be no more than 8 - for horizontal placement and less than 16 - for vertical placement, everything else is removed in the submenu;

menu items in the spelling should be short (up to 20 characters);

page titles should be succinct and clear (up to 50 characters long);

page descriptions - informative and clear (up to 155 characters);

urls of web-pages - clear and memorable (up to 70 characters long, written in Latin, with a hyphen between words).

4. Self-writing or ordering articles for the leading pages of the site.

Text is the most important element of any internet project. If you are planning to create a website that in the future should get into the top ten of the best (TOP 10), then you should pay special attention to text content. Materials should be unique, informative, high-quality, easy to read and written for people. The amount of text information on one page of the resource should be in the range from 5.500 to 9.000 characters. Articles with a smaller volume are rated much lower by search engine robots, and it is usually not easy to disclose the topic in four paragraphs.

There are three ways to solve the problem of filling the site with texts:

The first way is to write articles yourself. If you are gifted with writing talents, well-read and erudite, then it will not be difficult for you to cope with this task. Do not forget about the keywords that you have previously prepared (see point 2).

The second way is rewriting other people's materials (reworking and editing texts). Working with such articles is much easier than writing them yourself. However, there is a problem - it has become very difficult to find really competent, informative and good materials on the internet. As a rule, web sites with the original sources of author's articles have long lost the top positions in the search results to resources with large volumes of stolen and poorly processed texts ("verbal diarrhea", a disgusting edited method of synonymizing for search engine robots). Therefore, you will need to spend a lot of time searching, processing, editing, proofreading and checking for the uniqueness of the prepared materials. In this case, try to ensure that the uniqueness of your option is more than 85%.

The third way is to order texts for the site on content exchanges or from private copywriters (freelancers). The easiest way, but financially costly. The cost of a good article with a volume of 5.500-8.000 characters, excluding spaces, with uniqueness above 90%, will be 800-1.300 rubles.

In this case, when placing an order for writing an article, you will need to prepare a technical task, where you specify all your wishes. Take into account what the technical task is, this is the article. Currently, content exchanges are oversaturated with registered freelancers who proudly call themselves professional copywriters. But in reality, there are only a few of them who are competent and able to write high-quality and informative seo-texts.

5. Preparation of images, photos, logo, "header" and "basement" of the site.

Illustrations, graphic images and photos are one of the important elements of the site design. Visitors initially evaluate the resource visually, and only then informatively (by texts). The website should be liked, then the visitor will stay on it for a long time, will view many pages, and in the future will return to it again. Unfortunately, there are very few really beautiful projects on the internet. These are mostly mediocre resources, and some of them are even disgusting. Take your time and try to create something beautiful and unique. Try not to use other people's templates. You can only borrow someone else's interesting idea and create something original on its basis.

As well as texts, images placed on the site must be unique and optimized.

To design a web-project, you will need:

high-quality background images of large sizes (5 pieces) - they can be found on the Internet (there is a large selection) and then slightly modified;

pictures/photos of products that you plan to sell through the web-site;

logo - you can come up with it and draw it yourself or order it (the cost of creating a logo is from 1,500 rubles);

the "header" is the main image that is shown at the top of each web-page and provides the visitor with complete information about this web site (subject, what is offered, logo, contact phone number, address);

"basement" - a picture or a strip displayed at the bottom of all pages (as a rule, it indicates the phone number, as well as the name of the company).

All of the above can be done by yourself, without spending money, making efforts and applying the skills of working in any graphic editor.

6. Choosing a content management system or a website builder, paying for hosting.

If you do not have a deep knowledge of the development of internet resources and do not know web programming languages, then you have only two options:

1. Create a web-project using a content management system (CMS).

2. Make a site yourself in the web designer.

Objectively, the differences between these options are minimal.

In the first case, you have relatively small financial expenses, but serious time spent on studying a number of key issues (where, what, how, why, why). This option will require you to first study in detail all the advantages and disadvantages of various CMS platforms, in order to correctly choose the most optimal one for your tasks and needs. You will also have to deal with distributions, plugins and modules. Search the Internet for acceptable template options (beautiful and functional, usually paid), download, install, try, delete, and so on in a circle.

If you decide to develop a website on any of the common content management systems (for example, WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, DLE, 1C Bitrix), it is better to use the services of domain name registrars who, in addition to selling domains, offer hosting with a pre-installed CMS.

To place your website on the internet, you will need to resolve the issue with hosting. Or, more simply, with the rental of disk space on the server, where information about your site will be physically placed.

The main thing you need to remember is that hosting should be of high quality, reliable, fast, with a large amount of memory provided. As in solving other issues, the more expensive and the better. Prices for high-quality hosting - from 250 to 800 rubles per month.

The cost of creating a website based on a content management system ranges from 5.000 to 10.000 rubles (items of expenditure: domain, hosting, paid template). If your choice falls on a paid CMS, then you will have to pay an additional 10.000 to 80.000 rubles for it (the price of the license for a year of use).

In the second option, you initially spend more money, but you get a well-thought-out, simple and convenient web design tool for turning your dream into reality.

If you decide to create a project in the site builder (for example, Tilda, Jimdo, Vigbo, Mozello, Ukit, Wix, Setup), then a significant part of the problematic issues will be initially solved by the developers of these services.

In my opinion, the first three in the list (but it should be noted that Jimdo does not have a Russian version) are the best services for designing sites today. They are full of all the necessary functionality, logical, clear, thought out, easy to use, and you will not have any difficulties with mastering them.

To create a web project, you can use one of several dozens of beautiful templates offered, or choose a "clean" page, and make a website yourself with a unique design, including using a large set of proposed blocks and elements.

As a rule, after choosing a ready-made template, you can always change it to another one or make your own adjustments to it - change the background, the color palette of the menu, buttons, add or remove any sections. At the same time, the content previously posted on the web pages (texts, pictures, photos, video, audio files) must remain unchanged. Thus, you have the opportunity to periodically (for example, quarterly) change the design of your resource.

The price of creating a website in the constructor will be from 15.000 to 30.000 rubles (the main items of expenditure: domain, tariff plan, ordering unique texts/images).

7. Connecting the domain to the site.

After completing the work on creating the project, you need to connect the domain name to it.

In order to bind a specific domain to a specific website, DNS-servers must be registered in the properties of the domain name, which would correspond to the data of the service where the website is hosted (where the hosting or web designer is paid for).

On the domain registrar's service (where you purchased a domain name, for example, WebNames), going to the "personal account" under your username and password, you need to go to the section => "Domains", select the position => "Domain Management", then find the line => "DNS-Servers" => activate it.

In the window that opens, click on the position => "Select from the list", then => "Set yourself". A window opens where you need to specify the data related to the resource on which you have paid for hosting and the web-site is hosted in the line => "Server name".

Example (for clarity)

where - indicates that the hosting was paid for by this Jimdo hoster (in this case, it is a site builder).

It should be noted that the technical period for assigning new parameters to a domain name (DNS) takes from 2 to 24 hours, so do not rush to immediately connect it to your project.

Next, you need to specify in the website builder or on the hoster (the resource that provided the hosting) in the settings of the developed project that you have your own domain. As a rule, you can do this yourself, or by sending a letter to the technical support service, informing that you would like to connect your own domain to the project. This procedure takes from 4 to 24 hours, after which your website will be available on the internet when you enter its name in the address bar of any browser (for example, Mozilla, Opera, Safari).

Having completed the above-listed works, you will breathe a sigh of relief, and say to yourself - that's all!

However, i will disappoint you. Everything that you have done up to this point is just elements of pleasant creativity and nothing more.

Now you need to move on to the next stage - search engine promotion of the site.
